Is influencer marketing the future or a passing fad

A quick search on the word influencer marketing on Google trends reveals the growing popularity on this topic. Go back to 2004 and you will get a typical hockey stick curve: slow non-consequential growth following by exponential growth from 2015 onward?
However, skeptics are wondering whether this is one of those passing fads or indeed influencer marketing is here to stay.
To understand the perception of marketers we asked this question to marketers and business owners in Kenya cutting across multiple industries. Over 86% of our respondents thought influencer marketing is an essential part of the media industry and an additional medium that is worth considering in the future.
A mere 8% thought it’s a passing fad which will fade out.
